Joan's Personal Message

Women have always defined their own ways of giving back—an important reason why the Joan Hornig philanthropy model allows women to donate to the charity of their choice. Historically, women have played an important role in the charitable backbone of our country. Today, we continue to direct our skills and passion towards helping those in need and enriching the lives of others, especially other women.

As my friend Deborah Roberts of ABC News so poignantly writes, philanthropy begins with compassion. Each of the women's organizations that have benefited from a Joan Hornig design began their mission with an act of compassion or concern. As women, we must remember that our philanthropic spirit is especially vital during this time of great need—a time when a simple act of generosity towards others can be powerful and influential.

Warmest Regards,

Cause of the Month

March is Women's History Month (http://www.nwhp.org). To date, dozens of women's organizations have received donations from the Joan Hornig Foundation, further confirming that women support other women. The work of these dependable and courageous organizations ranges from funding women's businesses, educating women about disease prevention and promoting economic self-sufficiency. As we salute these wonderful initiatives, we urge you this month to support a women's organization that resonates personally for you and your family.

Jewelry Trend

Joan Hornig pieces are known for their versatile design—and versatility means value. During these difficult economic times, jewelry should travel the miles with us.

The Chamee Earrings are a perfect example as they are designed with 18K white gold as well as a detachable 18K green gold jacket. These earrings are “chameleon” in nature because they can be worn with different colored charms—like the lemon citrine drops pictured to the right—to adapt to your mood, style, or outfit.

Long and elegant, the Matte Agate Necklace with whiskey topaz can be double-wrapped or larietted around the neck or worn as a single cascading strand. The matte agate enhances the necklace’s warm neutral tones to compliment any daytime look. Enhancing the necklace’s versatility are the smaller whiskey topaz beads, which add a subtle touch of evening glamour.

Giving and Gratitude

We salute Deborah Roberts for her continued philanthropic work with organizations such as Baby Buggy, Help USA, United Cerebral Palsy and the Young Women's Leadership Network. Named in her honor are the Deborahs—cluster drop earrings that come in white or whiskey topaz and white or yellow gold. The earrings are available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Philanthropy Is...

"Philanthropy is a gesture, whether financial or not. It simply means making your fellow man's life a little better. It doesn't require wealth, just a concerned and compassionate heart."

—Deborah Roberts, ABC News
